Canadians spend about 10% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on health care. According to "Health Care for Canada 2000," a recently released report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information, health care spending reached $86 billion in 1999. This was an increase of 5%, or about $100 per Canadian, from spending in 1998.
An average of about $2,800 was spent in 1999 on each Canadian's health care.
