Besides the Government of Canada, located in Ottawa ON, Canada has governments for each province or territory, and for each municipality. Separate elections are held in each province and never at the same time as a federal election. All Canadians have both an MP representing them in Ottawa and a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing them in the provincial capital city. In the Province of Québec, these elected officials are called MNAs (Member of the National Assembly). In Ontario, they are called MPPs (Member of the Provincial Parliament). And in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, they are called MHAs (Member of the House of Assembly). Collectively, they tend to be called MLAs.

Provinces and Territories have government structures similar to that of Canada's Federal Government.

Territorial governments differ in structure from other governments in Canada.

The Provinces and the Federal Government have distinct as well as shared jurisdictions.
