This preference also affects the time that Canadians spend going to and from their work. Only eight Canadian workers in 100 walk back and forth to work, while another two ride bicycles. An average of fifty minutes is spent by workers going in each direction, and many citizens of Toronto, Vancouver, and Montréal spend much longer in traffic. Only 13.7% of Canadians travel to and from work regularly on public transportation, while 79% drive motor vehicles. A much smaller number, just over 10%, travel as passengers in motor vehicles. It is typical of a Canadian rush-hour that there is only one person in each vehicle.
